FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Question
Are the videos more than just commented presentation slides?
Answer
All videos include plenty of "face time" with your instructor (they're not just narrated PowerPoint decks), on-screen walkthroughs of scripts, screen captures of scripts in action, animations to help explain difficult concepts, and more. Each CD also includes links to additional resources, every sample script (so that you can follow along or use the samples in your own work), evaluations of scripting-related products, and so forth.
Question
The sample videos I viewed are rather small and of low quality - is the real thing any better?
Answer
Samples may be presented in a reduced screen size and quality; actual videos are presented in either full-screen NTSC (720x480) or 90% full-screen (648x432), except "VBScript Essentials" which is presented in approximately 50% full-screen.
Question
Do I have to install a special video player or codec to view the videos?
Answer
Videos are sold in Apple QuickTime format and a prerequisite to viewing them is to have the popular Apple QuickTime Player software installed. For your convenience the QuickTime Installer is included on each CD. Our original titles (Essentials, Advanced, IIS, Web, Tools, WMI, and ADSI) include an HTML-based interface which embeds the QuickTime Player. Newer titles feature a proprietary interface which also embeds the QuickTime Player. Videos are available now in Windows Media format.
Question
Do I need a DVD player or drive to view the videos?
Answer
No, all you need is a PC with a CD-ROM drive with Microsoft Windows and Apple QuickTime Player installed. Most DVD drives are able to read CD-ROM media so that should work as well.
Question
Can I make a copy of the videos I purchase?
Answer
